MIDI SEQUENCER

OpenMMT-8

A MIDI sequencer ROM for MMT-8 hardware, and a CLAP plugin that runs it: the panel, the display, and MIDI. JAM-8 is the second ROM. It plays loops and writes patterns while it plays.

This project is not affiliated with Alesis. OpenMMT-8 is free.

The plugin running the OpenMMT-8 stock-profile ROM. The display reads PLAYING PART 00, BEAT 005.
OpenMMT-8, stock profile. Tape save, load, and verify. The part-edit extensions are in the other ROM.
The plugin running JAM-8. The display reads HOUSE, Am, T3, and scene S05.
JAM-8. Eight lanes, sixteen scenes, and a new pattern when you ask for one.

The ROMs

Three 32 KB images

The plugin starts with OpenMMT-8. The ROM menu switches to JAM-8 or loads the stock file.

Build

Get it from the repository

There is no release download. Clone the source, build the ROMs, and build the plugin for your platform. Each script writes a release folder. None of them copies the plugin into a host folder.

git clone --recursive https://github.com/uAdvanced/openmmt-8.git
cd openmmt-8
bash tools/build_roms.sh
bash tools/build_clap_plugin_linux.sh

On a Mac, use tools/build_clap_plugin_macos.sh. From Linux or WSL, tools/build_clap_plugin_windows.sh cross-builds the Windows plugin with mingw-w64. The ROM build needs SDCC 4.2 or later and Python 3. The plugin needs CMake 3.20 or later and a C++17 compiler.

Install

Where the host looks

Copy mmt8_clap_plugin.clap into a folder your host scans. Keep LICENSE, THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md, and LICENSES/ with it.

  • Linux: ~/.clap/, /usr/local/lib/clap/, or /usr/lib/clap/
  • macOS: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/CLAP/ or /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/CLAP/
  • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Common\CLAP\ or %COMMONPROGRAMFILES%\CLAP\

The Linux panel uses X11. The host must provide an X11 window. The macOS build includes the panel. That panel has not been tested on a Mac.

The host shows the name OpenMMT-8. The plugin id is com.mmt8.emulator.stage2. A different id does not open saved projects.

License

MIT, and only these ROMs

The OpenMMT-8 and JAM-8 code is under the MIT license. This repository does not contain the original unit’s ROM or manual. Load a ROM file only when you have the right to use that file. Read the manual of the unit for the original functions. The guides on this site cover the plugin and the functions these ROMs add.
